AT A GLANCE
ONGOING TRAINING
Prepare Fully.
Then Live It.
Preparation gives the actor somewhere truthful to begin.
This ongoing Zoom class focuses on emotional and physical preparation for given circumstances, followed by improvisational work that allows the actor to live inside those circumstances.
The goal is not to demonstrate an emotion or force a result, but to create enough preparation that the actor can respond truthfully and specifically in the moment.
PREPARING GIVEN CIRCUMSTANCES
Give Yourself
Something Real
Ongoing class with explorations in relaxation, expanding the actor's range in emotional and physical work, and sensory exercises — all freeing the actor to take various preparations into a given prompt and improvise.
The goal is not to become caricatures, but real people in real-life situations. An actor's agility with this type of improvisation is vital for working in theatre, film, or TV.
FROM PREPARATION TO IMPROVISATION
Real People.
Real Situations.
Emotional Preparation
Develop preparation that connects the actor personally and specifically to the circumstances before the work begins.
Sensory Work
Use sensory work to strengthen the reality of place, circumstances and experience so the actor has something concrete to respond to.
Improvisation
Take that preparation into improvisational work and allow behavior to develop from what is actually happening in the moment.
WHY IMPROVISATION?
Stop Showing.
Start Living.
Improvisation puts the preparation to work.
Once the circumstances have been prepared, improvisation gives the actor the freedom to respond rather than plan.
The work asks actors to remain available to what is actually happening, allowing behavior, emotion and relationship to develop moment by moment.
